Why Audio Is So Important in Wedding Films (Speeches, Vows & Sound Design)

The wedding world is full of beautiful inspiration and styling details that are designed to look incredible. And whilst that visual side is such a big part of the experience, we believe audio deserves just as much attention when it comes to how a wedding is remembered!

In our wedding videos, sound isn’t an afterthought or something secondary in the edit. It’s the foundation of the story we form because we believe audio is what brings memories back to life just as much as the visuals do, and so that’s why we want to share our insights with you here!

The importance of voices

When Creating Wedding Films we think a lot about time. It’s hard to imagine in this moment, but 10 or even 20 years from now, you’ll sit down together and watch the films from your first day of marriage. That future version of you is always part of our creative process. We carefully consider how we can enrich the emotions that are already present on the day, honour your history, and celebrate your marriage as it begins, and a lot of that is done through audio storytelling!

Because of that, we often come back to a simple question: who will you want to hear from years from now?

It’s easy to overlook the importance of voices, but over time they become one of the most meaningful parts of your film. Hearing someone’s laugh and their voices, and then seeing their personality shine, is something you don’t fully appreciate until you have it to return to.

Because our approach prioritises these real moments, from vows and speeches to candid audio of your guests, we often receive feedback from couples telling us things like:

“WOW WOW WOW. Words cannot describe our gratitude, we’ve just relived our day again. ” – Fran and Dan

The role of sound in memory

A photograph is powerful because it freezes a moment. It gives you a single frame in time that you can return to and interpret in your own way.

Your video however, adds something completely different. It brings movement, emotion, and even more context. You see what happened before and after a moment, not just the split second it was taken.

But not all video is experienced in the same way…

A phone video, for example, usually captures what happened in a very direct, unedited way. It’s often about recording the moment as it is. Phone clips are spontaneous, and have their own place in how people now document their lives.

The films we create have a different purpose. They are not just recordings of moments, but instead, they’re intentionally curated stories built from audio, emotions and the energy that was present. When editing your wedding video, we consider sound, pacing and artful perspectives to guide how the story develops. The way one moment flows into the next is essential, so that the final film feels less like a collection of clips and more like a cinematic memory you can step back into again and again!

This is where sound becomes so important!! It changes how you emotionally connect to what you’re watching. It stops being something you observe and becomes something you experience again.

How we actually film your wedding day

We film audio using a combination of on-camera mics and discreet external audio recorders that can be attached to microphones and to people who are speaking. We also have backup audio running throughout key parts of the day like ceremonies and speeches. This ensures everything is preserved properly and nothing important is missed!! It also ensures that any candid moments that happen throughout the day can be captured both visually and through sound, making your film more dynamic.

But beyond the technical side, what really matters is how we use all of that in the final films we deliver to you. We include a full ceremony film and a full speeches film as part of what we deliver. These are important to deliver to you because they preserve these moments in their entirety…

… What we get most excited about however, is delivering your main storytelling film. Our wedding films bring together all the different audio we’ve gathered throughout the celebration and weaves it into one cohesive film. It’s the wedding video that makes couples laugh, cry, and feel completely transported back into the day all over again!

“Ohh my goodness. Franco & I are in tears, both of us. That was the most amazing video worth all the wait, I’m so grateful to the two of you, for just capturing the essence of our special wedding and all the emotions and all the speeches and beautiful landscapes. It’s exactly what we wanted and more, I really can’t thank you enough it’s so perfect! I can’t wait to show my parents, they’re going to love it.” - Sofia & Franco

Planning Your Wedding With Sound In Mind

While you’re planning your wedding day, our advice would be to really consider who you want to hear from inside your wedding celebration. It doesn’t have to be limited to traditional speeches either. You can include readings, personal messages or letters read outloud, or even create a more private moment with someone who matters most to you, like a grandparent or close family member for example.

It’s easy to underestimate the importance of voices today, but they can become one of the most powerful memories of a person or of a moment later. Your wedding is the perfect chance to not only create a record of your loved ones voices, but to also to cherish a really sweet moment of connection that doesn’t tend to happen in day-to-day life.
